It seemed like we had just gotten to LA and it was already time to go home...three days that just flew by...
We woke up in the morning, packed our stuff, showered and checked out. On the way to the airport, we stopped at Factor's Deli (another place I used to work) for breakfast and then navigated through the side streets to LAX.
The flight home was like clockwork and needless to say, I am now a huge Virgin America fan....
...stay tuned for the next trip report...

California Surprise, Part III
Monday, May 3rd, 2010
Steph drove out from Simi Valley to spend the day with us. She got to our hotel/motel around 10 or 11, and then we left her car in the lot, and I drove. The big question was...what to eat...what to eat...Jason started looking through his iphone for vegan restaurants in Santa Monica and we finally settled on a place called "Real Food Daily" or "RFD", right by the 3rd street promenade. The food was absolutely fantastic!
After lunch, we walked down to the beach and the pier...once again, I thought it would conjure up memories..but they were just memories of another lifetime, one that I have already lived and don't want to live again. I realized also, while we were out there, that there might even be more crazy people out in LA then there are in New York....
The beach was nice, but it was time to walk up to See's Candies (friends back at home were already asking for some...), with a quick stop back at the bakery of the restaurant we had lunch at..we wanted some vegan dessert (I also needed to use the bathroom, as usual..). Of course, while I was in the bathroom, I missed Pink and Carey Hart coming out of the restaurant....(though I was able to see them down the street).
Later on, we had dinner with a bunch of friends at the French Market in West Hollywood (where I used to work years ago). It was great seeing old friends and even though we don't see each other that much, it always feels like no time has gone by at all....

California Surprise, Part II
Sunday, May 2nd, 2010
The next day we (Jason and I) had brunch with my best friend Shanni and her clan (which included husband Oscar, daughter Sunny and mother Helen), my aunt and uncle (Shari and Hersch) and my cousin Jennifer and her daughter Kate. The two girls (Kate and Sunny) became best friends instantly and had a great time coloring and laughing all through brunch. After we all ate, we hung out outside the restaurant for awhile, where the girls took a liking to Jason and ganged up on him, making him swing them and throwing leaves at him. When he had to go inside for something, they tried to throw me in the fountain that was by the walkway.
We then drove over to my aunt and uncle's house for a couple of hours to hang out, where Kate entertained us by playing teacher (even though she is still too young to even know about school). She handed us books from the bookshelf and told us not to whine if we don't get what we want (or something to that extent). It was hilarious to hear from the mouth of a four-year-old.
Next up it was over to my step-parents' house for dinner (as you can see, family visits all seem to revolve around meals...). They were watching my sister's kids, as everyone was in Vegas celebrating my brother-in-law's 40th birthday.
We drove out to the city (Hollywood, to be exact...) where we had a room waiting for the next two nights. It was in my old neighborhood, Sunset and LaBrea..I thought it would conjure up old memories and make me feel sentimental, but honestly, it just seems like another lifetime...

California Surprise, Part I
Saturday, May 1st, 2010 (a little after 8:30am)
It's now 20 minutes to 9 in the morning and we just boarded the plane, headed off to Los Angeles for a few days to surprise my aunt at her surprise birthday party. The weather in NYC is beautiful this morning that it almost makes me sad leaving my adopted hometown. In 20 minutes, we should be up in the air, flying on the newest, most hip airline, Virgin America. Inside the cabin, the atmosphere is a dark, soothing purple...
We are now in the air and it's just my luck that after they turned the "fasten seatbelts" sign and tell everyone that they could get up and use the bathroom, I get up and stand in the line forming in the back of the plane. As soon as I get to the front of it, the captain turns on the light and tells everyone that we are hitting some turbulence and to return to our seats. I stumble back, unable to fulfill my mission...
The party was at a place in Westlake Village called Boccaccio's, an italian restaurant right on a lake. When my aunt arrived with my uncle, the look on her face was priceless. It was a great party.
After the party, we spent the night with my other aunt.
